There are a number of guidebooks and websites about accommodation in Kyoto, and you will find a wide range of accommodation in Kyoto to suit your requests: western style hotels from business hotels to luxury hotels, youth hostels, Japanese style inns ryokan, and guest houses using renovated old-fashioned houses in Kyoto called "machiya".
Note that "Aoi matsuri", one of the three main annual festivals in Kyoto, takes place in May. The festival's highlight is a parade with hundreds of people dressed in classical noble costumes on 15 May a few days prior to the COSMOS team meeting. Hotels in Kyoto are usually busy in the middle of May with guests to visit to Aoi matsuri. Therefore, it is better idea to reserve your hotel room as earlier as possible.
For the following three western style hotels we can reserve your hotel room at the conference rates. All of them are situated in and around Kawaramachi-Sanjo area which is a convenient place at the center of the city center for sightseeing, to go shopping and dining to Gion or Shijo-Kawaramachi, and, of course, to go to the conference place, Kyoto University. Booking a hotel room can be requested from the on-line registration form. Please understand our first-come, first-served policy because of the limited number of available rooms. We also sincerely request you to make payment by yourself at the hotel.

Take the Kyoto City Bus at "Kawaramachi-Sanjo" and get off at "Hyakumanben" with the #3 bus for "Kitashirakawa Shibusecho / Kyoto Zoukei Univ." or the #17 bus for "Ginkakuji, Kinrin Shako". It usually takes about 20 minutes from "Kawaramachi-Sanjo" to "Hyakumanben". Aactual time will depend on traffic conditions.
