We present an analysis of broad-emission lines observed in moderate-luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with the aim to test the validity of single-epoch virial black hole mass estimates. We have obtained near-infrared spectra of 43 AGNs up to z ~ 1.8 in the COSMOS and ECDFS, with Subaru/FMOS. These near-infrared spectra provide a significant detection of the broad Ha line. Furthermore, our sample has existing optical spectroscopy which provides a detection of MgII. By comparing Ha- and MgII-based masses, we conclude that the recipes established using local relations give consistent results between MgII- and Ha-based estimates for AGNs at moderate luminosities and up to z ~ 1.8.
