How group environment alters galaxy evolution rates

Angela IOVINO

Groups of galaxies are a common environment, where we expect the existence of secular mechanisms, altering color/star formation of member galaxies. In this talk I will present the work done on this topic using the 10K catalog. With a careful analysis using mass selected samples we were able to detect tentative evidence of "nurture" in action: galaxies bearing the signature of group related secular physical mechanism directly affecting galaxy colors. Our analysis seems to suggest that such mechanisms start to significantly influence galaxy population evolution only after z ~ 1, a timing that most probably mirrors the progressive emergence of structures where these mechanisms take place.
