14 Spectroscopically Confirmed Massive Quenched Galaxies at z>2

Mikkel STOCKMANN
(Dark Cosmology Centre, Niels Bohr Institute)

At z~2 half of the most massive elliptical galaxies are both dead and dynamically unlike the local counterparts, giant elliptical galaxies, with very compact stellar densities, and high velocity dispersions.
The majority of information of z>2 quenched systems have been acquired with photometry as well as a small sample of high-z spectra with kinematics and stellar population measurements. We introduce a sample of 14 very massive quenched z≥2 galaxies with high resolution X-shooter spectroscopy and COSMOS photometry to double the current sample.
With measured kinematics and stellar population modeling we will be able to address the peculiar nature of these massive dead galaxies.
