Radio continuum size evolution of star forming galaxies in the COSMOS field

To constrain the physical mechanism which drives galaxy evolution, we are probing trends for global star-forming sizes and their evolution as a function of distance to the galaxy main sequence over the redshift range 0<z<2. We profit from the JVLA map at 3GHz to estimate the SFR and intrinsic size of ~1500 resolved SFGs in the COSMOS field. We find that typical SFGs on the main sequence are larger than starburst galaxies. By comparing the extent of the radio emitting region and the optical size we also discuss our results in terms of the inside-out growth theory of galaxy evolution.
