Brightest cluster/group galaxies (BCGs/BGGs) are the most massive and bright galaxies in the Universe. They are typically located close to, or at, the centres of their host haloes. Using a sample of 407 BGGs selected from X-ray galaxy groups in COSMOS, XMM-LSS and AEGIS, we quantify the relative contribution of the stellar mass of BGGs to the total baryonic mass of hosting haloes over 10 billion years. We also investigate the relation between stellar mass and halo mass and the scatter in the stellar mass at fixed halo mass. Our results are compared with a number of results from literature and semi-analytic models.
